Here is the link to a new study that says that if your teenagers are getting less than 5 hours sleep a night it triples their chances of developing mental health issues.
The best information I can find is that they need about 9+ hours (a little more than adults) to be at their best – which is very difficult given their sleep phase delay (which means their bodies actually don’t want to go to sleep early – it is NOT their bad behaviour!)…? I can remember it well myself, actually.
So let them sleep in if they ever get the chance!
