Mental Health in Crisis Lecture Tour Australia and New Zealand February 2018

Mental Health in Crisis Lecture Tour Australia and New Zealand February 2018 with Professor Peter Gøtzsche and Robert Whitaker.

Professor Peter Gøtzsche is coming back to Australia to speak on the Mental Health Crisis, this time with Robert Whitaker, author of Mad in America and Anatomy of an Epidemic: Magic Bullets, Psychiatric Drugs, and the Astonishing Rise of Mental Illness in America.

I first became aware of, and blogged about Robert Whitaker’s work in 2010. His book Anatomy of an Epidemic deeply disturbed me, and I admit to being in denial for quite some time afterwards. It was too scary for me to believe that what he exposed in that book could actually be true.

A few years later, in February 2016, I attended Professor Peter Gøtzsche’s presentation in Sydney entitled Mental Health: Overdiagnosed and Overmedicated which added to my research.

And it was not in a good way. I was even more disturbed by the reality of what we incorrectly regard in Australia as evidence-based medical care. I didn’t know before this time, for example, that the suicide rate relates to the medications, not just the mental health problems. Nor did I know that you can suffer permanent side effects from taking antidepressants, even after you have come off them. Just two facts of many you will learn when you attend this lecture.

So for anyone who is taking antidepressants or sleeping pills, thinks they have a mental health problem, parents of children – and well, just about everyone – I encourage you to go to this upcoming lecture series in Australia.

Unfortunately I truly believe that Australia’s mental health and sleep diagnoses and treatments are dangerously lacking.

We now have 1 in 6 Australians taking antidepressants/SSRIs (the same percentage for pregnant women, by the way), 36 million psycho scripts being prescribed annually in Australia, and if you present to your doctor with insomnia you will be prescribed a medication in 95.2 percent of the time (medications that the TGA wanted to reschedule from schedule 4 to 8 in 2012 – unsuccessfully).

You don’t have to listen to me, but I highly recommend you attend this Australian Tour, to learn from these internationally recognized experts.

To register – early bird tickets close December 15, 2017 – go to now.

I will include a copy of Peter Gøtzsche’s 2016 lecture here. If you have trouble sleeping, anxiety and/or a mental health condition I recommend you listen to it.

I can’t wait to see these awesome speakers right here in Australia next year.

Don’t miss out, book now.
